Job Opportunity for an Assistant Clerk 

(9 hours per week)

East Donyland Parish Council is looking to appoint an excellent administrator who is able to work both collaboratively and independently.   The position is to assist the Parish Clerk and Councillors in ensuring that Rowhedge is an enjoyable place to live and to visit.  This will involve solving problems by  liaising with lots of different organisations,  pushing forward projects in the village to improve and maintain the village and supporting villagers with their queries.


The post is part time and the successful applicant will be required to work 9 hours per week, with a flexible working pattern to include Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and up to 2 evenings per month. 

Salary Scale will be on the NJC SCP scale, and will be dependent on experience. (£11.22ph)


The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:


  • Excellent communication skills – in person, over the phone and email
  • Excellent IT skills including Google Suite, Zoom & Social Media
  • Excellent administrative & organisational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Good knowledge of Rowhedge village is preferable
  • Willingness to contribute to the community
  • Awareness of local government structure & procedures is desirable


Typical Tasks for the Assistant Clerk 


Deal with queries from members of the public

Collate information & news relating to the village to send out each Friday via group email

Update & monitor social media pages (currently Facebook and Instagram) and website

Compile agendas, take minutes at meetings

Receive and process invoices, schedule payments for online banking

Liaise with contractors over maintenance issues or to gain quotes


Location:  Post-lockdown, hours can be flexible and will be split between home and our office at 1 Regent St, Rowhedge CO5 7EA
